| Blood on the Rooftops

Update:

A number of you have emailed me about reposting my playlists.  I kind of got lazy while the show was off the Internet stream, but I promise to be more concientious about it from now on.  One quick note though.  Sometimes I don't have the specific track info for a piece that I might have played.  That's either because it is a rare, OOP album that I have on CDr, or that I don't have the tracklist info here with me at school.  Any help with these would definitely be appreciated.

Blood on the Rooftops is a radio show focusing on progressive rock, krautrock and psychedelic music. The show airs from 12-2 pm Eastern time every Saturday out of the New York University radio station, WNYU. The program can be picked up on 800 AM for those in the New York area, and at www.wnyu.org otherwise.

One of my goals is to call attention to the inherently international phenomena that progressive rock was, and still is. The impact of groups like Genesis and Yes was not only felt in England and the US, but across the world, especially in France, Germany, Spain, Japan, Hungary, South America, and in the incredibly rich Italian scene. These countries remain the primary contributors of modern progressive rock bands. In addition, bands like Jethro Tull or King Crimson are only stylistic entry points for the vast array of eclectic music tagged with the "progressive rock" label. I want to bring both these forgotten classics of yesteryear, as well as the innovative and unfairly ignored bands of the present to greater public attention by whatever means possible. Bands and music that would be covered would include perhaps nuggets of the acknowledged progressive rock canon (early Genesis, Crimson etc.), but the focus would be on lesser-known artists from around the world. This would include English groups like Camel, Van der Graaf Generator, Hatfield & the North, Henry Cow, Soft Machine and Gong, Italians like Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Premiata Forneria Marconi and Il Balleto di Bronzo, German "Krautrock" groups like Tangerine Dream, Agitation Free, Klaus Schulze, and Faust, as well as vital modern groups deserving of radio support, such as Deus ex Machina, Djam Karet, White Willow and Thinking Plague.

Once the show gets going, I plan on occasionally dedicating 45-60 minute blocks on the show to specific countries, as well as having three to four song artist blocks on other shows. These will be posted here on the site ahead of time. Check back often for an idea of whats going to be played. Please email me and give me some feedback once you've heard the show. We'd be happy to play requests and pretty much any album on The Giant Progweed is available for play. Soon I'll make a list of all my albums so listeners can browse and pick out stuff they'd like to hear. I hope that the show can be useful both to you, the audience, and in giving the artists some meaningful and much deserved exposure.
