Kraan to co-headline ProgDay 2002
ProgDay is honored to announce that legendary German
band KRAAN will be
headlining the Saturday portion of ProgDay 2002.
This marks an historical
first, both for the band, who makes their first
US appearance, and for North
American prog festivals in general, who have not
to date has one of the
great German bands of the 70s come play. This will
be the only date on their
U.S. engagement, and a must-see event for those
who have waited a long time
to finally see this great ensemble in person.
ProgDay is a two-day festival taking place on the
Labor Day weekend, August
31-September 1 2002, at Storybook Farm in Chapel
Hill, NC. Already confirmed
for the event are The Muffins, Avant Garden (both
US), Tempano (Venezuela)
and Thieves' Kitchen (UK). Taking place every year
since 1995, ProgDay is
the longest-running North American prog festival,
and is a by-fans, for-fans
event, organized by a dedicated team of volunteers.
Its idyllic outdoor
environment and community atmosphere makes it an
unforgettable weekend of
music and spirit. Ticket information for this event
will be on the web-site
in the next few days.
Kraan is one of the foremost German bands of the
"golden years" of prog.
Thanks as much to their blistering live performances
as their studio albums,
they built a grassroots following in Germany and
were voted top domestic
band by Germany magazine Sounds in 1975. Many of
their albums were released
in the US on the Passport label, and have seen
a variety of reissues on
labels over the world. Their 1975 double-LP "Live",
considered by many their
magnum opus, has sold over 125,000 copies worldwide
to date. Much of their
back catalog has recently been reissued on major
label division EMI
Electrola, and is available in the US from such
vendors as
http://www.waysidemusic.com and http://www.lasercd.com.
Their combination of
progressive, funk and jazz and the caliber of their
musicians makes Kraan
not only one of the top performing outfits of this
era, but also one of the
most fun. Featuring the classic line-up of Hellmut
Hattler (bass), Ingo
Bischof (keys), Jan Friede (drums) and Peter Wolbrandt
(guitar), Kraan has
stayed active in the last two decades when other
bands faded away, and even
have a recent live album ("Live 2001") to showcase
their always-fresh live
performances.
