Adam groovin' to Nepenthe Contact Info: About the whole prog thing... Well, it all started for me with Genesis. I decided that I'd always kind of liked them on the radio and asked for 'We Can't Dance' for Christmas. Gimme a break, I was 12. And I listened to it, and the pop stuff was fine and everything, but the longer stuff like 'Fading Lights' I just fell in love with. And then I got to see them in '92 (thanks mom and dad), and I thought the old stuff was about the coolest thing I'd ever heard. My fondest memory of that show is still the drunk guy passing out on my feet during 'Second Home By The Sea.' After that, it's all my uncle Jim's fault. He'd been a Genesis fan back in the day, and he introduced me to the old stuff, as well as Yes and Crimson, who he was sure would thoroughly freak me out. And the Who, but that's another story. From there, I kinda figured it out on my own. I tried out all the 'big' bands (Yes, ELP, Tull, Floyd, etc.), and then I found this guy named Fish who sang on one of Tony Banks' solo albums, and I thought he was pretty cool. So, Marillion became my other favorite band. And for a while, that's the way it was, Genesis and Marillion and the usual stuff. And then I discovered the internet, where I could find out about all these hundreds of bands that were like the stuff I liked. And we all know where that leads. I'm finally beginning to make a dent in the mountain of things that I desperately need to hear, but for everything I've heard, there's 20 more I need to. But thanks to some wonderful people who know what's good for me, I've developed a love for Canterbury and RIO, and a taste for Zeuhl. Besides the prog stuff, I enjoy some power-pop,
particularly Jellyfish, a lot of late-70s new wave stuff like XTC, Talking
Heads, and Elvis Costello, and the odd other thing now and then.
